The Philippine government has finally allowed the representatives of the Hong Kong government to take a look at the bus conduct their own investigation as to what really happened in the bloody hostage taking that happened last week. The hostage taking drama at the Quirino Grandstand took the lives of eigth Hong Kong nationals who were in the Philippines as vacationers.

Unfortunately, what was supposed to be a merry vacation ended up in a tragic way. The hostages were under the mercy of the sacked Senior Inspector Rolando Mendoza who also died in the event. He wanted to be reinstated and his named cleared from all past allegations about him thinking that taking a bus full of tourists would be his ticket towards being noticed by the government.

And noticed he was. Not only by the Philippine government but by the whole world as major international media outlets covered the hostage drama. This event put a dent in the relationship between the Philippines and Hong Kong and put the country in a very bad light in the eyes of the international community. This is especially a blow to the newly installed Aquino government whose police force is perceived to have bungled the rescue attempt.

Hong Kong is demanding a thorough investigation by the Philippine government and they sent their best men to investigate the crime as well. Although the experts from Hong Kong are given access everything concerning the crime, the local officials are still the lead agency and has primary jurisdiction regarding the case.

The presence of the Hong Kong experts are believed to somehow soften the blow that has been caused by the hostage taking drama. Their part in the investigation is the government’s attempt to let the HK government and its people know that the Philippines is not hiding anything and wants justice to be served as well.
